The film’s subtitle “Folie a Deux” means “Madness of Two” in French

Struggling with his dual identity, failed comedian Arthur Fleck meets the love of his life, Harley Quinn, while imprisoned at Arkham State Hospital. Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, and writer-director Todd Phillips share what scared them most about tackling the musical sequel. Plus, Gaga discusses how she got into and stayed in her dark character. This initially led to speculation about Harley Quinn’s appearance in the film, which was later confirmed. The name Folie a Deux comes from 19th-century French psychiatrists Charles Lasègue and Jules Falret. The term was coined to refer to two or more people who share the same madness or delusion.

The jury foreman speaks of the “People of New York” instead of Gotham City. This is because New York State is the plaintiff in a criminal trial, and this version of Gotham City is evidently located in New York State (most versions place Gotham in New Jersey). The film opens with a Looney Tunes title sequence, featuring the Warner Bros. logo surrounded by rings and the Joker’s face. I really wanted this to be a good movie, but
Merrily We Roll Along Written by Eddie Cantor, Murray Mencher, and Charles Tobias. but I have to be honest, this one just didn’t do it for me. My actual rating would probably be around a 4 or 5, but I’m giving it a 6 because I know this movie is going to get a lot of downvotes, and it does have some merit. At first, it felt more like a musical promoting Lady Gaga’s “new album” than the dark psychological thriller I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, Gaga is talented, and her performance was solid, but the excessive musical numbers really ruined the mood. This is not the kind of movie where I want to be pulled into a Broadway show in the middle of the story.
The acting was there, no doubt
It just ruins the atmosphere and tension that worked so well in the first Joker movie. One thing I’ve never seen before: so many people walked out of the theater before the movie even ended. Unbelievably, I even saw a few people fall asleep during the movie! The pacing dragged, and it lacked the intense energy that kept the original Joker engaging from beginning to end. On the plus side, the cinematography was beautiful, and Joaquin Phoenix is still excellent as Arthur Fleck. But even with these strong elements, something was off.
